Namibia Camp Fire

Namibia is known as the “Smile on the face of Africa” and we would like to share the charms of this friendly destination with you. We offer a range of tailor-made safaris. Our speciality is a classic African hunting safari in our exclusive true wilderness area – the achingly beautiful 1 million acre Torra Conservancy in Damaraland, North West Namibia. From free-roaming endemic plainsgame of exceptional trophy quality to Big Game options. A total of 26 species are readily available if we also include the 500 000 acres of private land where we have hunting rights. We also offer fishing trips, photographic safaris and scenic side-trips. Allow us to put that Namibian smile on your face...

Hunting in Namibia in the Torra Conservancy has been described as “the ultimate plainsgame destination in Southern Africa”. The area is something really special: you’ll encounter more than a thousand head of game on a typical day and the trophy quality is truly in the Superior category. We do not promote “tape-measure hunts” preferring to focus on getting a post-productive male that is a good representative sample of the species, but good gracious, some of these are monsters! We are blessed with an unusual amount of exceptionally big Kudu, Gemsbok (Oryx) and Springbok in this area. Hartmann’s Mountain Zebra are abundant and a local speciality.

Apart from the endemic species occurring naturally in this pristine and protected wilderness area, Witkop Safaris also provide hunting on private land. Farms are large; game is abundant and mostly free-roaming. We use Bobbejaandam Camp outside Windhoek for great Warthog, Red Hartebeest and Eland Trophies on a 16 000 acre farm. We can offer hunting all over Namibia, wherever your needs are, from the red sand dunes in the South to the bushveld bordering the Etosha Park. Elusive and rare species are sourced according to the needs of the hunter.

We have access to some niche products for the discerning Big Game hunter. We get a small quota of Lion, Elephant, Leopard and Cheetah. The Torra Conservancy has the highest concentration of Black Rhino anywhere, but we have not hunted them yet. We are striving to expand our portfolio by obtaining more concession areas offering free-roaming big game, with Cape Buffalo high on our priority list. We already arrange ad-hoc hunts tying in with our own plainsgame and big game offerings, but we hope to secure our own exclusive areas in the near future.

Base Camp

The campsite near Windhoek is ideally situated to provide you with a easy starting point for a hunt – 60 minute drive from Hosea Kutako International Airport and about the same distance from the capital Windhoek.

The camp it self is on the side of Bobbejaan Dam is a luxury tent camp consisting of 5 x 2 bed luxury tents. Each tent has a bathroom with toilet and shower, hot water is provided by gas geyser and electricity is provided from solar panels.

Damaraland Tented Camp

A scenic and leisurely road-trip to our remote Torra Conservancy located in North-Western Namibia where we have our hunting concession, takes about 6 hours. Traditionally, we set up a seasonal hunting camp under big False-Ebony trees and close to a natural spring and water hole. The atmosphere is something to experience, with all meals prepared over the open fire and enjoyed under the canopy of stars. Accommodation is in safari tents, but ablution facilities are shared by the safari guests. Sufficient comfort even for wives and family groups, without distracting from the thrill of camping in a true wilderness area with various members of the Big 5 in close proximity.

Just imagine the sound-track at night: Deafening silence apart from the crackle of the fire, with the occasional howl of jackal and hyena, the deep base roar of lion, elephant 100 yards away at the water hole ...

Damaraland Hunting Lodge

These facilities would satisfy even the most discerning guest. Hand-built from local rock, the hunting cabin offers stunning views over the countryside from its elevated position on a rocky outcrop (see picture above). The terrace and small pool overlooks the natural spring frequented by elephant and other game. Although no hunting is allowed here, it would literally be possible to bow-hunt from the pool...

Luxury safari tents can sleep 2, have great views and tasteful en-suite bathroom facilities (shower, toilet, hand basin, hot and cold running water).
